In 1987 Rich and I decided to get a Maltese puppy as a pet after researching the breed and attending dog shows.  The Maltese stood out in the show ring with their beautiful white silk coats, black pigment and elegant flowing movement.  We looked at puppies, loved the outgoing temperament and purchased our first puppy.  Our new puppy was not show quality, although to us she was perfect.  We soon learned that she would never be a champion, but she was in our hearts.  She changed our world and we loved and adored her until we lost her at the age of fourteen.

In the early nineties, I decided that I wanted to show and purchased my first show dog.  The sport of showing dogs would encompass my whole life.  Maltese have a lively and vivacious temperament.  Maltese are a loyal loving companion.  At Rijes, we strive to breed that lively temperament with sound structure and movement.

Raising Maltese and showing Maltese is a hobby for me and I have very few litters.  I am a member of the American Maltese Association, Nor-Cal Toy Dog Fanciers and the California Central Valley Maltese Club.
